Cavendish

Cavendish is a pixel-platformer game that inspires players to take action by supporting ecotourism and sustainable architecture. It takes place on Cavendish Island, a place that contains both a beautifully biodiverse rainforest and an ever expanding city. As a lost sailor named Jacques, your job is to make sure both the rainforest and city can exist in harmony, by switching between worlds and talking to citizens. Throughout the game, the player will learn about the rainforest and what lives in it, how to take care of our planet, and the negative and positive effects humans can have on natural environments.

EDITING NOTE FOR GAMES FOR CHANGE STUDENT CHALLENGE JUDGES:

After we submitted, we encountered some issues with our game, Cavendish, which is registered into the “All in for Nature: Reefs & Rainforests” category of submissions. Upon testing, the game worked on one of our teammates' computers, but it did not work as well on our computers, which showed us that some problems might arise on different computers. Therefore, we humbly ask that the judges take this email into consideration when evaluating our game.

Here is a list of found issues:

1. If you need to pause the game, click escape. From here, you can skip to the next checkpoint, reset to the last checkpoint, or resume playing the game.

2. If you see anything that looks like it might be important in the distance, DO NOT use the skip feature unless you absolutely have to. Doing this can cause many glitches.

3. In all of the text in the game, apostrophes show up as the number 2019 inside a box for some reason. We don't know why this happened, but this is probably an issue with the font we used. Please ignore them, and pretend they are apostrophes. The font we used also did not have question marks or capital letters, so some of the formatting and grammar may be a little weird.

4. If you try to skip or restart and it doesn't work, do not panic. You should just try to keep playing, but if you can't figure it out or any other game functions aren't working, then you can watch the attached video to see how the game ends.

5. For whatever reason, the ending quiz and animation was unable to load in the submitted link. The game currently ends with a blank grey screen with no text or images on it, which is obviously not supposed to happen. Click here to see the video showing how the game should really end.
